Door Prizes: a variety of prizes will be given out randomly to those who pre-register and then attend the event on Friday, May 8th, 2009
Referral Prizes: In order to increase the diversity of the event and meet our goals of registering a large number of individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, there will be a grand prize given out to the person who refers the greatest number of people from a racial background other than Caucasian.*
*In order to be eligible, the individuals referred must pre-register for the event at wumarrow.org and in the “Name of Friend Who Referred You” box, put the name of the person competing for the prize. Individual walk-ins are also allowed, but the person must give the name of the person who referred them at the front table in order to add to that person’s total.
*The goal of this Referral Grand Prize is to dramatically increase the diversity of the event. Our funding source requires an equal registration population of Caucasians to other racial backgrounds.

About the Drive
Washburn AMSA will be hosting a bone marrow registry drive in partnership with the National Bone Marrow program. The event is set for May 8th from 1 to 6. We are being provided funding by the National Marrow Donor Program. In order to gain funding for each person, we must register an equal number of Caucasians to other racial backgrounds. This drive is focussed on individuals of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds in order to increase the number in the national marrow registry. Normally, the registry would cost $52 a person. We are hoping to get a strong response from Washburn students, but this event is also open to the community. It is a quick process and will only take about 20 minutes of your day on the day of the event. The registry is non-intrusive and only requires a cheek swab to enter yourself into the registry. Imagine, you could save a young kid like Alex. a 13 year old that practices karate with her brother Matt and who is a voracious reader. She was lucky enough to find a donor who gave her the chance to grow up, to play...to just be a kid. Please make a choice to take 20 minutes out of your day and register to the bone marrow registry, so you may one day be able to save someones life!
